Conference Recap: SWARS
Event
On March 1-2, the UPDS team traveled to Galveston, Texas to attend the Southwest Association of Rail Shippers (SWARS) Annual Meeting. This year’s theme was “Poised for Progress," and many of the speakers addressed what’s ahead for rail shippers.
Topics included a plastics outlook, updates on ports and short line railroads, and the impact of the election on transportation. Our parent company’s very own Kate Betsworth, vice president-National Customer Service Center for Union Pacific, also weighed in on an operations roundtable, “Every Move Counts."
Cindy Duncan, director of sales-Carload Solutions for UPDS, said attending conferences like SWARS allows her and her team to learn from a multitude of rail shippers in a single place. “While we already have a great understanding of market trends and customer outlooks, you can never stop learning," Duncan said. “Participating in conferences like SWARS improves our knowledge of what rail shippers are facing in these continuously changing times. We can then use that knowledge to develop new, value-added solutions for our customers."
